People get food by way of farming and it is a part that has been with us for centuries. Can we however take this to the next level with farming? The answer is yes! One of the unique ways is aquaponics, a method designed to make farming easier and more efficient. But aquaponics is a special method of farming that links up two things we would always need: fish and plants. This is an awesome way to farm as it uses way less water, which most farms used regualr farming techniques. It also requires less land in order to produce the same amount of food.
Aquaponics are not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill type of farming; they combine the best of both sides and bridge aquaculture with hydroponics. This might have you asking yourself: what is aquaculture? Aquaculture on the other hand is where people farm fish in water. Now, what about hydroponics? In other words, hydroponics Growing plants without soil! Instead they utilized water and similar materials to assist plants in becoming strong. Aquaponics simply marries the Figure 9 and the Footprint along with their inhabitants, fish to plants.
So, what do you need to know about this wonderful system that has so much potential for agriculture and sustainability — Time Out Guide? Fish in an aquaponics system reside in a tank, and they create waste. While this fish waste may seem like an issue, it is highly beneficial to the plants! The plants are grown on top of the tank in a separate, hydroton-filled bed that also helps with drainage -- it turns out this clay is amazing stuff for both draining and aerating. The fish waste is rich nutrients and fertilizes delicious plants. These same plants are chomping on the nutrients cleaning up that water for fish and helping to keep things fresh. So you may be thinking, why would small farmers be interested in aquaponics? It is simple, it saves them money. Small farmers often have too little land to grow enough food. Aquaponics is a good thing as it has the potential to use only 2% of land, and has less water requirement unlike conventional farming. Less water is then used, and thus farmers spend less money watering their crops. Besides, you can also get cash with selling the fish and farmers are able to sell both their plants from aquaponics system as economic output of it(Html content). This could be an amazing way for small farmers to make a living and support their families, while also growing their business.
Aquaponics is essentially creating a mini ecosystem in your own backyard that works to the benefit of all involved. The fish and the plants assist each other in this ecosystem to grow. The fish are the source of all nutrients for plants, which in turn clean water to live into making it safe and sound. This also means that aquaponics does not need as much outside resources like regular farming. It saves the environment too as waste is reduced and fewer resources are used.
